At our last home game, the Pirates collected $77 from their fans for the Steven Roberts Memorial Fund. The Pirates Team then match the amount raised for a total of $154. Roberts, a member of the Anderson High School Football Team, passed away Tuesday from an apparent cardiomyopathy. He would’ve started his senior year this Monday.
Last week members of the Madison County Pirates participated in the Annual Pendleton Junior Football League Mini-Camp. The mini-camp is the first time 3,4,5 and 6 grade players get to practice as a team. Each Pirate player ran a station in a circuit of eight teaching the fundamentals of each position on offense and defense. Jim Estes, President of PJFL commented that this year with the pirates running each station, each team’s coaches were free to evaluate and individually assist each PJFL player, something they couldn’t do in past years. #88 Nave from the Pirates had this to say about the event. ” Helping out these kids and seeing them go out and give everything they got at practice while having fun and being excited really re-sparked my passion for football and the love of the game.”
